Reading is fun!
I choose interesting and easy reading stories for my young learners that do not let learners get bored. We have a classroom library where all books are sorted by genres and the age of my students. They love reading and doing some fun activities on stories.
Here is a story prepared for grade 4.
Step 1: Read the story and retell it.
Retelling helps students to memorize the main idea and improves learners speaking skills.
Step 2:
True/ False activity.
This activity is useful for reading comprehension as checking students' understanding is
a very important part of reading strategy.
Step 3:
"Story Map" activity. I usually offer my students to work in groups for story mapping because of time-consuming. It also helps learners to work in a team helping each other.
Step 4: Presentation
The teams present their story map by following a given structure in the story map handout.
Story mapping is a unique technique that provides a clear picture of the whole story by reviewing and analyzing the story.
